Light the Fire
Activate what the student already knows about the topic
WRITING SCHOOL FOR Y5–8 · NZ / AU
Built for New Zealand and Australian Year 5–8 students learning academic writing.
Every lesson runs through six phases (light the fire, add materials, shape, hammer, polish, replicate), with margin-note feedback at each step.
Students still do the writing. They build the structure real academic writing needs, and you see it grow lesson by lesson.
New families start with a short writing assessment, so we can place each student at the right level. The pilot is running now.
HOW A LESSON RUNS
Every WritingForge lesson follows the same rhythm. Students don't open a blank page and a chatbot. They work through six phases in order. Each phase is a specific craft task, with feedback that reads the structure they've built.
Activate what the student already knows about the topic
Read informational texts and study how they're structured
Practise the writing techniques the unit teaches
Independent draft: student writes, structure feedback in the margin
Structure-aware scoring, revision suggestions
Home review: vocabulary, structure, skills
HOW THE FEEDBACK WORKS
Some feedback is instant. Some takes a few seconds to read the logic. The growth report waits until after the lesson. Each one below says what it catches and what it leaves to the teacher.
Checks intro / body / conclusion shape while the student types.
Detects shape, not meaning. A well-structured essay can still be wrong, so a teacher reviews every piece.
Reads the draft for logic, coherence, and reasoning gaps.
Suggestions for the student to think through, not edits to accept.
Tracks structural skills across weeks and units.
Patterns over time, not a single-number grade.
THE BOUNDARY
WritingForge does not write your child's essay. It does not deliver an automated final grade. It does not stand in for a teacher's judgment or a parent's read-through.
Students write, teachers review, and parents see the work as it grows.
WritingForge guides the craft in between.
THE PILOT
WritingForge is running its founding pilot with a small group of Year 5–8 students across New Zealand and Australia. Founding families work through the six-phase classroom, receive structured feedback reports, and shape what we build next.
Public teacher and student handbooks are available now.
